Ordinary Things

Power come to us
in the light of morning
in the light of night.
Disseminate freely
where need is dark
and open up connections
that we may sail freely
into strength
bouncing back from weakness
into the sunlight of thing
body building
mind absorbing
regenerating
coming to discover
the power of ordinary things.

Morning, Day After Thanksgiving, 2001

The flower of light opens
where last discovered
as trying, ignorantly,
I can’t find it.
Even any sense of its fragrance.
So I light a stick of incense
and pretend
I have its presence
like all those who tell me
they love this delicate spiritual essence
this glow
that maintains such power
this more than anything
this more than a flower.
No word is enough.
I’m permanently lost
in pretense.
But go on and
sit, enjoy the incense.
Breathe it in with the air
my life depends on.

Love Letters From Above

Hello atmosphere
the stratosphere & ionosphere send you love.
We are teaming partners, working in the same company,
companions for eons, evolving atoms for the Earth
raining down air, oh lovely atmosphere,
bathing globe to the nurturing globe
air of life, life particles of air, plaything of the sun
dance of warmth, day air of sight, opening of eyes, seeing
night vision, dark whirring of currents, as the Moon
reflects down through. Oh how is anything anything but
an energy of love, nighttime, daytime beaming down through.
Concentric layers of the happy dance, and the Sun-Daddy
the pivot for all, seeing eye to child, Earth kid & the building atmospheres
of precious breathing, oxygen life-giving & going live giving & going.
Mother warmth, the bed & the garden, the barrenness & the depth
the oceans & the deserts, forests & sunken caverns, the precious vistas
the gifts of love to the humans, at last, the human: what are they doing
with it there.
